We are still pinching ourselves! Recently, the team at Atlanta News First stopped by to feature us for National Soul Food Month, highlighting how we are bringing the authentic, vibrant flavors of East Africa straight to the heart of Atlanta.
The entire idea for African Soul Food started with a simple longing for the flavors of home. We wanted to create a welcoming space for those traditional tastes right here in Georgia, and we are so incredibly proud to share them with you. Our menu is a true celebration of the dishes we grew up with, cooked authentically to remind you of home with every single bite.
When we first opened our doors, we made sure to bring in all the beloved classics. On our menu, you will find hearty, comforting ugali (a traditional cornmeal staple) and deeply flavorful pilau (spiced rice). We also serve G Mimo and are absolutely thrilled that our signature fish has become one of our number-one bestselling items. But the experience doesn’t stop with the main courses—our guests have fallen head over heels for our starters and sides, too. We love hearing from customers that their colleagues at work are obsessed with our crispy samosas, while others tell us they can’t get enough of our sweet, fluffy mandazi (African donuts).
This is the food that started it all. Long before the cameras rolled, Caroline first found success by simply bringing a tray of her home-cooked food with her to local events. We have stayed fiercely true to those catering roots. Today, outside catering remains our absolute favorite service because it’s exactly where we came from. We love bringing the flavor to your birthdays, church gatherings, and graduations.
The best part of this journey? Seeing how food brings people together. It’s not just Kenyans enjoying this food anymore—absolutely everybody has opened up their hearts and palates to this space. We are seeing Americans of all backgrounds coming through our doors to try something new. Just today, we had the honor of catering for a local school celebrating African cuisine, and seeing their happy faces reminded us exactly why we do this. Over the years, we’ve also been blessed to host a few familiar faces. Prominent Kenyan icons like the band Sauti Sol and music artist Nameless have dined with us. We even hosted a massive celebration right here for Ferdinand Omanyala, the fastest man in Africa, which brought in a crowd of almost 150 people!
Whether we are cooking for international celebrities, a local school, or a family stopping in for a weekend lunch, when you eat from our East African menu, you’re tasting dishes that are cooked directly from the soul. We cook with pure love, and we truly believe you can taste that difference in every single bite.
Thank you, Atlanta, for letting us share our kitchen with you—and thank you to Atlanta News First for shining a spotlight on our dream! Come on by and taste the soul for yourself.
